Excellent antique condition – holes in the paper (as photographed) – pin holes – stains from age and use – print cropped at an early date to just beyond the margins – a few minor scratches to the finish of the frame – preserved and ready to hang. Size of Engraving – 6 3/8″ Wide x 7 7/8″ High. Frame Size – 15 1/8″ Wide x 17″ High x 1 3/8 Deep. MARCANTONIO RAIMONDI – The engravings of M. Raphael realized the merit of having his compositions widely known and encouraged Raimondi to engrave after designs that he supplied. The results were not mere copies but interpretations respecting Raphael’s’disegno’ while making no attempt to imitate the texture of paint. Raimondi’s work enjoyed a large market in both Italy and the North where it played an important role in disseminating the High Renaissance style. He hired and trained a number of engravers to assist him, including Agostino Veneziano di Musi, Marco Dente and the Master of the Die. His rather hard classical style is reflected in the work of his pupils, who closely adhered to his method of firm contour lines and diagonal hatching. His mostly anonymous team constituted the first internationally important engraver’s shop. Over a period of about 15 years, they produced close to one thousand engravings after Raphael, before the shop was destroyed in the Sack of Rome in 1527. This service takes approximately 7 days to the U. Possibly longer at peak times.
