The Crucufixion of Christ – 18th c Oil on Canvas Painting Description: Antique oil painting on canvas dating to the 18th century, depicting the crusifixion of Jesus Christ with disciples stood before him and a kneeling Mary Magdalene. Christ is painted naked with just a thin loin cloth, there is good brush work and more traditional approach to the subject matter. Presented in a frame of later construction. Painting Condition: The painting is in reasonable condition for its year. The canvas has been re-lined at somepoint and there is evidence of this upper left where the original canvas doesn’t quite meet the corner of the frame (See photos). The paint work is stable, although would probably benefit from a light clean and re-varnish. There is a sag to the canvas so would benefit from a little attention. Frame Condition: The frame is a later addition and is in reasonable order, there are a couple of small chips, scuffs and scratches but generally ok.
