It is a pleasure to offer this outstanding Early to Mid Century Retablo oil painting on copper measuring 11 3/4″ X 15 3/4″ which was painted in the Baroque style of the Great Masters depicting the Madonna and Child. It is a rare image of Mary wearing a golden tichel headdress, clothed in a blue robe and red undergarment. She is seen looking down upon the Infant Jesus while holding Him with her right hand as He sits atop a wooden stool. She is holding a lovely stem of Easter lilies with her dainty right thumb and index finger. The baby is slightly covered with a swaddling cloth as He looks up to His Mother in great awe and is pointing to a flower which symbolizes purity. This painting of museum quality likely originated from Spain given the style and execution and is an unsigned work. It is in good condition without damage or repair and was painted with remarkable detail. It should be noted that there is one small area on Mary’s neck and the Infant’s shoulder that was retouched at some point in time. The surface of the painting shows normal wear due to age. It is displayed in a ornate vintage style gold leaf wooden period frame measuring approximately 17 1/2 X 21 1/2.
