This is a beautiful piece; dating to the early 1800’s or possibly a little earlier. It is a French hand carved tabernacle door. It depicts the Dove of Peace and a wreath surrounding the Dove, with clouds at the bottom of the door, all of which which are gilded and contrast beautifully with the shabby grey paint background. There are rays beneath the Dove and wreath. The edge of the door is decorative with its gadrooned edge and gilded dot border. It has a fabulous fatigued French finish, being wonderfully shabby, not at all surprising for its age. There are 2 hinges on the left side and it has a lock but no key. It could easily be hung as a superb piece of Sacred Art by attaching a hook to the rear. It is 32cms or 12½ tall and 17.5cms or 7 & 7/8 wide. The depth is 3cms or 1¾ wide.
