Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity from Hindu mythology, son of Shiva and Parvati, is celebrated as the Remover of Obstacles, the bringer of good success and fortune, signified by the direction of his trunk, (symbolically curled to the left). In his right hand he holds his broken tusk and in the other offers a rolled ball of rice. Left to taste a sweet in. Is a particularly archaic feature. With his other hands he offers the Chakra and a musical conch shell. In his early forms in India, Lord Ganesh was initially a god of fertility, until later when he became widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and furthermore, as the Lord of Beginnings and patron of arts, sciences and a representation of intellect, wisdom and generosity. Ganesha is instantly recognizable among the Hindu gods.
