NOTE: There is extensive tunneling from bookworms – some may just see this as damage, others will appreciate the uniqueness this adds to this 237 year old book. There is some foxing throughout and there are some handwritten notations inside the cover. The hinges are in decent condition but are certainly weak. All 3 show genuine age, polychrome paint with appropriate wear and patina, and would display beautifully together or split across a collection. Piece 1 – S Giorgio (St George and dragon) A carved polychrome wood relief depicting St George on horseback slaying the dragon, with the rescued princess standing at the right. Hand inscribed S Giorgio along the base. Stepped wooden base approximately 9.5″ tall and 7″ wide. Likely 18th/19th century abc appears to be an original altar or retablo fragment later mounted for display. Piece 2 – Holy family / Religious scene relief Companion style carved polychrome wood relief showing a robed family group – a male figure (likely Joseph), a female figure, a child between them, with two winged angels above holding a canopy or crown. Mounted on a matching stepped wooden display base. Approximately 9.5″ tall and 7″ wide. Same workshop or tradition as piece 1. Piece 3 – Carved openwork floral pattern A pierced carved wood architectural pattern with stylized foliate and floral motifs in deep red and yellow-green polychrome. Likely an Asian architectural fragment (Balinese, Javanese Chinese), late 19th to early 20th century, originally part of a piece of furniture, screen, or building element. Approximately 7″ x 6″.
