Framed Antique Spanish Colonial Painting Cuzco School. A lovely antique Peruvian oil on linen painting from Spanish Colonial period late 18th-early 19th century. In the style of Classic Cuzco School, the painting depicts Madonna and Baby Christ and were heavily embellished with symbols of Christianity influenced by characteristic local flavors, such as the white floral crotchet laces, bejeweled crown an indigenous plants and flowers. Beautiful antique oil painting, after a work by the 15th century Italian artist, Andrea Mantegna, depicting the Virgin Mary at the foot of the Cross, being comforted by St. John and Mary Magdalene, the painting measures 11-1/2″ x 11″ (sight), mounted in ornate gold & black frame, overall measurements: 15-7/8″ x 15-1/4″, not certain if this painting is modified (cut down), perhaps part of a larger work, the painting has age, at least from the 19th century, perhaps a student work or perhaps a painting done on commission to bring home from a European tour, good condition, from a local estate.
