The work is Kitâb-i Muhammediye (full title: Kitâb-i Muhammediyye fî Kemâlâti’l-Ahmediyye), written by Yazicioglu Mehmed Efendi, and one of the most widely read religious and mystical works among the people during the Ottoman period. It is a poetic work describing the life of the Prophet Muhammad, his miracles, and the foundations of Islam. Written with the aim of guiding the people, it belongs to the genre of biography and mawlid (poem celebrating the birth of the Prophet). The work deals with topics such as the oneness of God, love for the Prophet, and moral virtues. This work is known in Ottoman society as a “book of recitation, ” frequently read collectively in homes, and holds great value in terms of cultural heritage. It also contains several illustrated pages with talismans depicting sacred symbols such as the Kaaba, the Prophet’s Mosque, the White Hand (Yed-i Beyza), and Zulfiqar, as well as various other depictions. Binding Structure: Period-specific, with a flap (cover extension that functions as a bookmark while reading), red, hardcover cloth. Condition: Used; in its original period binding.
