A beautifully evocative pair of early 20th-century religious portraits, this antique devotional set presents two distinct chapters in the life of Christ, from the serene innocence of childhood to the solemn spiritual intensity of prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Together, the two works create a compelling and deeply atmospheric pairing, united by their warm coloration, luminous treatment of the figure, and unmistakable devotional character. The smaller portrait depicts the Christ Child, presented with softly illuminated features and a radiant halo. Particularly noteworthy is the surviving provenance on the reverse. The original wooden backing retains a charming red-bordered handwritten gift label reading. From Dad, 25th Wedding Anniversary, April 5, 1927. Additional faded period labels or inventory markings remain above it. This remarkable inscription provides a tangible connection to the portrait’s history and establishes its presence within a family collection nearly a century ago. This antique brass altar candlestick features a medium size with a gold color and brass material. It has a fluted stem and a tripod base featuring lion’s feet. On the base there are 3 raised reliefs: Mary, the Sacred Heart with a cross rising from the top and a Trinitarian Triangle with Hebrew symbols, reflecting its religious theme from the Victorian era. THIS COMBINATION OF SYMBOLS IS RARE – NOT SEEN VERY OFTEN as the usual ones are of the Holy Family. It is suitable for taper candles. The candlestick is likely French in origin from the 19th century. The candlestick stands at 15 inches tall, weighs 1.38 lbs, and is unmarked in terms of brand. It has a beautiful patina and there are no apparent scratches or dents other than a small dent in the fluted stem near where it joins the top portion – see pictures. The only known anomaly is that the upper ring below the actual candle holding slot is loose but does not appear to affect the candlestick in any way. With raised relief and an antique bronze finish, this candle holder is a unique and original piece of decorative collectible for those who appreciate religious artifacts from the late 19th century.
