This is an absolutely beautiful, 1870’s antique 18kt yellow gold sapphire and pearl cross pendant. This piece is quite impressive, it was totally handmade out of several separate hand crafted parts and the primitive methods of gold works is amazing.. The pendant has princess cut sapphire gemstones, with a most desirable deep blue color. The frame of the cross was completely hand carved and then 5 very thick square heads were individually handmade and then hand soldered on. A round flower shaped head was hand soldered in the middle and then the 5 sapphires were bezel set, by hand and the 4.5mm high lustrous white freshwater pearl was hand set. Of course there are visible signs of hand work, including obvious soldering, giving this piece a special character and value. This is a rare and unique work of the earlier Peruvian jewelers. This gorgeous pendant will dress up any outfit and can be worn for any occasion. The pendant is not stamped, so it was tested in the store with acids, it tests 18kt gold.
