Quick description Amazing old diorama, religious Folk Art circa 1880. Probably made at the end of the 19th century with older elements. Christ is older, very well made, probably 18th century. The Virgin and Mary Magdalene seems to be more of a 19th century work. The whole is presented on painted panels. Good general state of conservation. Dimensions 37cm wide, 34cm high and 7cm deep.

Antique 1800s Rock of Ages – Tinsel/Foil Art Reverse Painting on Glass Extravagant Beautiful and very old religious art, featuring foil work and reverse painted glass, in an extravagant beautiful antique wood frame. This is reverse painted glass of Rock of Ages, with the title above and the rest of the saying at the bottom. Nice use of tinsel/foil work behind the glass painting as well. The overall size is approx 20″ wide and 26″ tall, I will be getting a more exact measurement shortly. There are no cracks in the glass. The frame is fantastic, almost triple layered like. There is some minor wear as seen in the photos. It is backed in wood, which is nice to preserve the safety of the glass painting. There is a note taped to the back that I did not want to remove, as it gives an idea of it’s age. It reads: Was Grandma Andersons. I think it had been her mothers, my great Grandmother Lundgren. Measures 11 inches x 9 inches (28x23cm) Probably carved in Belgium or southern Netherlands due to the style but coming from an Irish Convent. This is a masterly carved Meerschaum plaque which has had a later chalk frame and a globed glass front added later. From the 1st half to mid 1800s the detail in the carving is supreme with a lot going on. I have tried to trace the original grand master painting (if any) this this could be based on but cannot even find one half so busy in it’s depiction of the Crucifixion. Measures 11 inches x 9 inches (28x23cm). This comes from a closed convent in Ireland bought at auctioneers clearance sale.
