Antique icon, “Our Lady Hodegetria with the Christ Child, ” with certificate. Dimensions with frame: 22.0. X 18.9 in. Dimensions without frame: 13.8 x 11.0 in. A hand-painted icon depicting Our Lady Hodegetria with the Christ Child, created in accordance with the tradition of Byzantine icon painting. Mary is shown as the One Who Points the Way to Christ, which is one of the most recognizable and important iconographic types in Christianity. The icon was painted on a wooden panel using gold and tempera paints, giving it a traditional character and rich depth of colour. A certificate of authenticity is attached to the reverse, confirming that the icon was hand-painted on wood using gold and egg tempera. It also bears the model designation “The Virgin Hodegetria, ” inspired by a 14th-century icon from the 1360s held at the Pokrovsky Monastery. The icon is framed. The frame is included free of charge as an addition to the artwork. The attached photos are an integral part of the painting description.

1920s Antique Religious Portrait Diptych – Christ Child & Christ in Gethsemane. A beautifully evocative pair of early 20th-century religious portraits, this antique devotional set presents two distinct chapters in the life of Christ, from the serene innocence of childhood to the solemn spiritual intensity of prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Together, the two works create a compelling and deeply atmospheric pairing, united by their warm coloration, luminous treatment of the figure, and unmistakable devotional character. The smaller portrait depicts the Christ Child, presented with softly illuminated features and a radiant halo. Particularly noteworthy is the surviving provenance on the reverse. The original wooden backing retains a charming red-bordered handwritten gift label reading. From Dad, 25th Wedding Anniversary, April 5, 1927. Additional faded period labels or inventory markings remain above it. This remarkable inscription provides a tangible connection to the portrait’s history and establishes its presence within a family collection nearly a century ago. This antique 19th C miniature painting on porcelain depicts a Madonna & Child scene, framed in a double frame. The outer frame has burl veneer and an ebonized border. The inner frame is brass with tiny shells. The porcelain (3″x2 3/8″)is wrapped in a metal surround which I believe is also brass. The back of the frame is lined in old French newspaper or book page and the miniature is backed with leather. The artist created this original oil painting in the style of Raphael in France. Measuring 6 inches in height and 5.25 inches in width, (in the frame) this religious artwork captures the essence of biblical themes and portrait style. A unique addition to any art collection, this piece showcases the intricate detail and craftsmanship of the 19th century.
