Stunning piece by German Secessionist or Jugendstil metalworkers Erhard & Sohne of the early 1800s. Cast bronze box or casket with repouse Gothic design panels featuring religious? Figures in various themed mysterious postures, some with a ring. Sized 5 1/2″ wide and 2 3/8″ tall. The box is very heavy and has a latch that lifts on the front. It has a lock but there is no key. It still opens fine. If you turn it over, the base is brass and I polished it somewhat to reveal the Erhard monogram mark on the base in the center. Marked “Germany” on one bottom edge as shown. Interior lining was once velvet or felt. It is still there but has dried out over the years and has marks and stains. No lining in the lid. Beautiful craftsmanship from this famous German metalworker, from about 1900. MARKED on base with Erhard hallmark. Bronze box with brass bottom. Very detailed raised relief repousse. No key, opens easily. Was once lined inside with velvet that has now faded and is extremely worn, but does not detract from piece but shows its age. Vintage Bronze / Brass? Religious Casket not sure if it is by Erhard & Sohne? It does not have a makers mark. Inside is lined with wood, not sure if the catch had a pin or a lock but comes as shown in the photographs. Has not been cleaned and is in very good used condition. Size 13cm by 6cm and 5cm high.
