Exceptional is the word to describe this Antique, Gilt overlay, Cast Bronze, Holy Water Stand. The Stand is Intricately Detailed, with a different Religious Icon, on all 4 Sides of the Base. Christ, on the Cross, above an Open Shell Font. Unmarked, but probably French. The condition is Antique good. And just the right amount of wear to the Gilt, for decorative appeal. From 19Thc, Napoleon III era, made of gilt brass and bronze, open work, adorned with little flowers, acanthus leaves and foliage, with its complete and original rhinestones made of clear cut glass. A rare size (human size) coming from a church, the engraved donor’s name is present. A remarkable craftsmanship and beautiful and rich details. It comes with its original and superb patina. An exceptional and well executed antique continental European religious octagonal painting, 19th century or possibly earlier. This religious artwork is layered with symbolic and allegorical imagery. Near the top of the painting Mary is depicted holding the child Jesus while both have their arms open, welcoming the animas sola, or lonely ancestral souls depicted at the bottom of the painting who are hoping for salvation while awaiting judgement amidst the flames of purgatory. In the center we see an angel lifting up the souls that have been judged and that have been cleansed by a figure depicting a grown Jesus holding his staff and pouring water over the souls so that they are cleansed and can ascend to heaven. Come see this stunning painting in person at our historic showroom located at 137 Stockton St. Dimensions: 19 1/4 inches high, 200 inches wide / long and 1 3/4 inches deep. Painting itself measures 11 5/8 inches high by 12.5 inches wide. Condition: Wear consistent with age and use. The painting is oil on canvas and the canvas has been glued to a board. Puncture marks can be seen all around the edges suggesting this was at one point mounted differently somehow. The frame is newer and not original to the painting.
