Just picked yesterday from the Long Beach Antique Flea Market.. Gorgeous, old Antique Gesso/Polychrome Statue of Jesus & possibly Joseph (don’t have enough expertise in this arena- any help would be lovely). I assume age wise, it’s at least 100 years old, maybe even more. Could be 18th C for all I know. If you have knowledge, please contact me. MEASUREMENTS: Measures 8 1/2″ tall by 3″ wide.. CONDITION : In As Found, Antique Condition. As shown with the photos, they are hunks gone- two at the bottom, and one on the head of Joseph? Holy drilled at about theirf waist height… Looks like it was attached to something else? … And lastly, various nicks and rubs throughout the piece but I believe it adds to the charm. Experience the serenity and artistry of the East with this vintage gilt lacquered wood seated figure. Carved with meticulous detail, this 13 tall Oriental spirit figure is a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of its era. Its handpainted features add a touch of the divine, making it a striking piece for any collector. The rich brown hue of the wood permeates the piece, giving it a warm, inviting aura. Despite the unknown age and maker, the figure stands as a unique treasure, embodying the tranquility and wisdom of its theme. This is a piece that belonged to my parents, who lived in Japan from 1946 until 1964. I have no idea exactly what this represents, and I can’t find anything exactly like it. I’ve done some research and think I’m correct in writing that this is gilded and lacquered wood, hand carved, and either from Asia or India. It has a serene face with heavily lidded eyes, centered by an inlaid urna and has long pendulous earlobes. The hair is adorned by a metal crown and it has a metal necklace that is adorned with a few tiny beads. The necklace needs repair. I don’t know if this is a Budda, other spiritual figure, or warrior. NOTE: I unfortunately broke one arm off, but it is included and waiting for repair.

Up for your consideration is an old crown made for a statue. The gilt metal work is detailed with a globe on top and a radial cross. The glass jewels are secured with no missing stone. This is surprising since the metal is old and show signs of Verdigris. Has mouldings, motifs, and scrolls. I do not know much about this crown. Please see photos for measurements. Very good condition considering its age. Will pack with care.
