A wonderful antique carved wooden figure p. Robably originally part of a freeze or larger sculptural piece. The figure has been carved in a rather acrobatic or flying pose and looks like it was originally holding something, as we can see two aligned holes in the hands. There are three old metal rings attached – one in the top of the head and two in the back, one can only wonder at what exactly these were for, but currently they have been wired up with a rather unattractive nylon line to allow hanging. The paint has worn off over time but there are still traces here and there. Particularly head and underneath on the clothing. It’s carved from a dense, hard wood of some type, fairly heavy overall. Difficult to date exactly but definitely has some age – mid 19th century India by repute. Very good overall condition; there’s an old repair to one arm, but no other significant damage. Obvious signs of age and paint loss. Measures; 19 inches / 48 cm long x 8 inches / 20 cm widest point. From tip of fingers to top of head 11 inches / 28cm. Old /antique Indian Tribal silver pendant. This is a Old Silver Tribal pendant. The pendant was originally made and worn by the tribal gypsy people of Rajasthan in Northern India. It features the Goddess Kali. Kali is an extremly powerful figure who signifies both creation and destruction and represents Mother Nature. She is worn in India as a very strong protection amulet. I bought the pendant in Rajastan myself. It is 60-150 years old, and is extremely pure fine silver with 98% purity. (Sterling silver is 92.5%). The hoop at the top is 4.3 mm internally, which is big enough for the clasp of a small silver chain to pass through it. The pendant is 3 cm acoss and 5 cm high. I will send the pendant on a length of very strong black cotton cord, tied into an adjustable length slip knot. I have been making my living exclusively from designing and making jewellery for 9 years. I travel every year to seek out old and tribal silver from Asia and India along with semi-precious stones. Back at home in Brighton, England, I make these loose pieces up into beautiful and unusal jewellery.
