A quality antique French Limoges kiln-fired enamel on a copper plaque. This charming miniature portrait is an enameled work inspired after the painting titled Joan of Arc at the Coronation of Charles VII (Jeanne dArc au sacre du roi Charles VII), an 1854 French painting by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres hanging in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The scene commemorates Joan of Arc, depicted in her armor at the coronation of Charles VII of France in Reims Cathedral, victorious and looking up to heaven, which she felt had given France the victory. Exquisitely enameled in vibrant colors atop a dark red/brown background, beautifully detailed and embellished with gold gilt accents and halo. Gorgeous enamelwork atop foil gives emphasis to the armor and helmet of Joan of Arc. The enamel plaque is housed within a wooden arched frame surrounded by an exquisite gilt bronze border. The enamel plaque is signed in gold gilt to the lower right hidden just below the frame, I have not taken the plaque out of the frame to examine the signature. Antique religious painting French Limoges 1800s Lovely Detailed Brass Frame. Large 1800s engraved brass frame with painted porcelain medallion featuring Mary holding the Infant Jesus flanked by angels in a canoe. Sublime portrait Mary and Jesus both wearing crowns, angels have enormous wings, little reliquaries draped over the edge of the canoe! Nice patina to the delicate brass frame. Original easel stand and hanging ring. Measures just shy of 7.75″ high and 5″ wide at the base. Porcelain medallion is 3.25 by 2.50. Patina, some slight bends in the frame. Full of French charm. Exhibiting superb detail and vibrant bold colors, hand painted with gold halo and accents. The plaque is signed by the enamelist A. Peron or perhaps A. Pernan and dated 1882. Housed in an opulent carved gilt wood frame. Richly decorated, the frame is by a carved finial depicting a dove flying among the clouds, backed by a radiant halo. Embellished with gold gilt painted accents and halos. This charming miniature portrait is an enameled work inspired after the religious painting titled Madonna of the Book, or the Madonna del Libro, by the Italian Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli. The Madonna of the Book is a soft and elegant work. Depicting the Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary gazing at the Book of Hours (Horae Beatae Mariae Virginis) a prayer book common in the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries. Seated in her lap is the baby Jesus. The infant is gazing up at his mother, while holding in his hand symbols foretelling the Passion of Christ, the three nails of the cross and the crown of thorns. Signed in gold gilt to the lower right, apres Botticelli (after Botticelli). Housed in an opulent Florentine style wood frame, with gilt and painted accents. ULTRA RARE ANTIQUE ITEM! A superb early 17th century Limoges plaque. The plaque depicts religious scene. The saints is finely drawn in black, over which the enamel colors have been applied, all over a dark purple-black counter enamel, the edge of which is outlined in gold. The two corners of the plaque are decorated in raised stylized foliage of white enamel over a black ground which is commonly seen in Limoges enamels of the late 16th, and early 17th centuries. The saints head is surrounded by a nimbus beautifully drawn in gold. The plaque is framed in a carved and gilded late 17th, or early 18th century frame. Frame: height : 12.4/31cm, width: 9.8/25.5cm. Enamel plaque: height : 8.2/20.5cm, width: 5.6/14cm. Condition is museum quality antique. There are some cracks on the botten right corner. There are minor losses to the frame which are commensurate with age and usage. Please see all photos!
