A unique antique folksy French tin monstrance featuring a top circular holder with glass, the reverse has a latch for opening and closing the holder, it is surrounded by radiating spikes, creating a sunburst effect. The object is mounted on a tall, slender stand with a flared base, and a small cross adorns the top. The tin has an aged patina and shows its signs of manufacture. This piece being less valuable that often found bronze or silver models was used by altar boys during street procesisons and would make a fascinating addition to a collection of religious artifacts or unique folk art decorative items. When I found this piece it had some small crucifixes inside its holder, they are included in this sale. In very rustic antique condition without any breaks. Please see the photos for more details. DESCRIPTION Antique early 20th century painted porcelain plaque in a large pricket style brass monstrance. Depicting the image of the virgin Mary in a period turn of the century brass frame this porcelain plaque is beautifully painted to depict her piety. The monstrance is made from pressed metal in high relief with devotional images throughout and covered in a gold gilt. It is held together with a threaded metal rod and is capped with a cross. This was most likely a devotional item in a church and used in parades during holy days given its size and portability. The plaque is most likely European in origin. Marked on back in pencil: 87260 #10706 A fabulous addition to your retro home decor, religious art collection, German porcelain collection or a great housewarming gift idea. MEASUREMENTS Monstrance measures 29″ tall by 12″ wide by 7 deep and weighs 6lb 12oz. The porcelain plaque measures 2.5″ wide by 3.25″ long. An original 17th Century Pen and Ink Drawing. Study of a Monstrance supported by Angel’s. By an accomplished but to me unknown hand. Drawn on laid paper the upper part of the monstrance is drawn on another sheet intentionally cut and laid onto angel base. In good condition for age. It would certainly benefit from further research.
