For this listing and all others. Alloys with a higher gold content will have a color that is more saturated and yellow. In contrast, lower-karat alloys will look paler in comparison. 9K gold is NOT as saturated as 14 or 18K gold. RARE AND VERY COLLECTIBLE ca. 1820 Georgian 9 k yellow gold mourning pin brooch with seed pearls. Please read the product parameters carefully and choose the jewelry that suits you to avoid unnecessary trouble. I have 2 very similar mourning brooches listed. This one is rectangular the other one is oval. Both from the same estate and both belonged to the same woman see my other listings and the last picture. Georgian era: 1820s pin brooch – which could easily be converted into a pendant by a competent jeweler (I currently do not offer this service). Rare find: 200+ year old pins in this condition are rare to find. Mourning jewelry: braided hair under glass. Hairwork or jewelry made of human hair has appeared throughout the history of craft work, particularly those made to be used for private worship and mourning. From the Middle Ages through the early twentieth century, memorial hair jewelry remained common. Hair, considered to be a remnant off the person it was cut from, also has often played a part in myths and legends. Very nicely surrounded by seed pearls. A seed pearl is a small natural pearl formed in either saltwater oyster or freshwater mussel that is usually less than 2 millimeters in diameter. Victorian England small seed pearls were often used in mourning jewelry. Back is plain gold – check. Pin is in good condition. Glass has small dust specs inside. Again this is a 200+ year old item. Wear is commensurate with age. Pin itself is not gold (most of the pins attached to the brooches are not gold). No repairs, no issues, glass is intact. Pin is a bit warped (again very normal when worn again this is an antique item). Huge – check ALL the measurements. This is a 200 year old antique pin – let’s put this into perspective. People had horses not cars in the 1800s. James Monroe was US President. People had no indoor plumbing. In 1820 the life expectancy in the US was 44.9 years (females) – for men even less (38). (perfectly normal for an antique item of this age) but tested by me. 9K gold is NOT as saturated as 14 or 18k gold. Pin itself is not gold (most of the pins attached to the brooches are not gold as gold is too soft of a metal). 2 centimeters long x 1.3 centimeters at its widest (or 0.79 inches x 0.51 inches). Use a measuring tape or a ruler so you can visualize the size properly. Compare the item to a pin you own FOR SCALE. More precise than this is IMPOSSIBLE. Compare the weight to an item you own. Read the product parameters carefully and choose the jewelry that suits you to avoid unnecessary trouble. Weight and measurements are approximate and taken to the best of my abilities. Compare the measurements and the weight to a pin you own. I really cannot do better than this. It cannot be my fault if you don’t read the entire description. I’ll gladly help. THIS IS A SMALL BUT LOVELY PIN: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF G_D. FORGETTING TO READ the measurements. Cannot and is NOT my fault. If you do not know what 2 cm look like (although I show the item in my hand, next to a coin and ON THE MEASURING TAPE) then I urge you to take out a measuring tape and check for yourself. Same goes with the weight. Gold, pearl colored, hair under glass is dark blond (light brown) at least that is how I see the colors. You might perceive the colors differently or they might display differently on your screen. 9 k gold is NOT as yellow as 14 or 18 k gold (see information on alloys above). Pictures were taken in broad sunligh t and in the shade for comparison purposes with an iphon. Display differently on your screen or you might perceive the colors differently. The sun brightens every picture. No alterations were made, no enhancements, no filters used, no photo-shop. Antique Victorian 14k Gold Seed Pearl Jet Mourning Cross Pendant Brooch. The pendant/brooch measures approx 49mm by 31mm. Not marked but tested by me and my jeweler to be 14k gold. Clasp is in working order. I had my jeweler add a bale so it can be worn as a pendant. Slight wear to the stone edges. Slight movement of the gold cross word it was pinned to the jet. An exquisite example of 200 year old silk embroidery samplers, this one is a mourning devotional and mourns the loss of “Sacred to the Memory of Musgrave Brown, Died June 11, 1808, aged 40 years” sewn on the silk tomb. The chenille stitches, long stitches and super-fine embroidery in silk is more than 200 years old and has very little damage. You can see our images show there is a line of broken silk, fully visible but well contained within the frame and under glass to protect it for another 200 years. Very good condition for age and type. The silk panel has been matted and framed in a very nice antique frame that might well have been its original. I suspect it once has a back-painted “eglomise” mat, black with a line of gold, which would have been the most likely mount for this type of work. The nice old burled wood frame is a contemporary to the needlework. Outer measurement: 18.25″ x 15.25″ and 1.25 thick. The silk embroidery panel showing 9.75″ x 7.25″. Our photos are large and clear. Antique French Victorian Bohemian Garnet, Diamond & Sapphire 14k Gold Pin. Please note: Photos are enlarged to show details. Actual measurements are stated below. A spectacular antique Victorian 14K Gold Pin with diamonds, sapphire, rose cut garnets. Fleur de Lis with raised scrolling accents is centered with etched Chalis. Cross at the lip of the chalis signifying the blood of Christ and eternal life. This is behind a protective, slightly convex, beveled edged, glass. Border of pin is a circular array of 2 mm Rose Cut Bohemian Garnet gemstones. Back of pin is open and displays a lovely openwork motif which supports the Fleur De Lis on the 14k Gold frame. Pin is accented with genuine diamonds and sapphire. It is hard to measures the gemstones behind glass, but the biggest diamond is estimated to be approx 1.5 mm wide and sapphire to be approx 2 mm wide. On the back is written E. Labequ, 26 Avril, 1893, which is French for 26 April, 1893. We believe this to be a Sentimental, either Mourning or Religious pin. Some one was kind enough to let us know that. The chalice on the mourning pin probably. Signifies that the owner who died was in a religious order. Symbols like the Fleur de Lis and the chalice were used to signify that the person was in a order. Certainly, a one of a kind Victorian pin. Weight: 21.7 grams. Tested and guaranteed to be 14k solid gold. There is a small, 1/8 inch, slightly deep scratch on the top glass surface. It is not distracting and could possibly be buffed out by polishing (hard to see on photo, see red arrow on photo below). The gold has a heavy dark patina as to be expected from its age. It has not been cleaned or polished as we wanted to preserve its original condition for the new owner. Otherwise, this outstanding pin is in very good condition.
