Rare antique Catholic devotional sick call / travel wallet, dating to the early 20th century. The black leather case features compartments with a brass crucifix and two devotional medals. Inside is an original yellow identification card noting ecclesiastical approval. Grace, the Most Reverend George W. Mundelein himself was one of the most influential Catholic leaders in America in the early 20th century, often called “Cardinal of the West, ” and helped expand Catholic institutions nationwide-including through the Catholic Extension Society, which your wallet bears. The identification card is filled out to E. Campbell, 1440 Beach St. While not extensively documented, the Campbell name appears in Vallejo directories as property owners during this era, giving this set both devotional and local Northern California historical provenance.
