Up for sale is a very nice antique religious icon painting by Russian artist Pavel Akimovitch Ovchinnikov. This 19th century icon is made of silver with an inlayed painting of Jesus. Gilt silver shows darkened patina from age. Painting and silver are in excellent condition. Reverse of icon is lined with purple velvet which matches lining of leather case. Icon comes in a dark brown leather case with locking mechanism (missing left side). Inside of case is lined with purple velvet on the bottom and cream colored satin on the top that shows browning from age and heavy wear to the fabric from getting caught on the silver icon inside. Top and bottom of case are not attached. Signature and silver markings on bottom of silver icon. Gold emblem on satin lining is faded but visible as seen in photos. Icon measures 7″ x 5 5/8″ x 3/4″ and leather case measures 8 1/2″ x 7 1/4″ x 2″.
