Antique Religious Icon Oil Painting Possibly the Birth of Jesus. This is an old painting on canvas that has been attached to a board, so the small white border was originally attached to the side of its stretcher. D escription: Solid Silver chalice cup with cover possibly religious 6 inches high. Measurements: 16 cms high or approx 6 inches high. Base diameter 6.5 cms by cms by cms high. Hallmarks: there are some hallmarks only to finial which are not. None others that I can find however the silver bowl of the chalice & the cover has a silver planished form to it on close inspection , The piece has tested by proof at 925 silver. The finial knop to the cup cover has a dink. Please see the photos which form part of the description. This is a very nice unusual item. Superbly depicted portrait study of a Biblical religious figure. I think it may be of St. Jerome in the Syrian wilderness (stand to be corrected) There is a stamped mark to the rear of the canvas for a Parisian Art Dealer, though I think the painting itself may be Italian. In very good antique condition ; there has been one little repair and touch-in to the dark background (towards top right hand corner) ; it is in a later gilt frame.
