This is a gorgeous antique 18th century Italian bronze religious medallion from my mother’s estate collection. One side features Saint Rita and the Archangel Gabriel, while the other displays Our Lady of the Pillar. It is 1.75 inches long, including the bale, and 14 grams. Our Lady of the Pillar (Spanish: Nuestra Señora del Pilar) is the name given to the Blessed Virgin Mary associated with the claim of Marian apparition to Apostle James the Greater as he was praying by the banks of the Ebro at Caesar Augusta (Zaragoza), Hispania, in AD 40. The celebrated wooden image is enshrined at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza. Saint Rita of Cascia (Born Margherita Lotti 1381 — 22 May 1457) was an Italian widow and Augustinian nun venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. Rita was married at an early age. The marriage lasted for eighteen years, during which she is remembered for her Christian values as a model wife and mother who made efforts to convert her husband from his abusive behavior. Upon the murder of her husband by another feuding family, she sought to dissuade her sons from revenge. We recommend that anyone serious about collecting medals from this period acquire a copy of this book. Thanks for your kind support in our work!

This is an Antique chalkware statue depicting the Saints Rita and Theresa. The original finish has worn and exhibits dirt from the past storage. Fair amount of paint loss. I found one other of these statues on another web site and it was clearly refinished. It is an altar of some sort, that perhaps was for dipping fingers in holy water as one was about to offer prayer. WE ARE THE MUDLARKS, we find treasures so you don’t have too!

This offering is for an antique 19th century hand painted tin Retablo. The painting was done in oils on tin and measures app. 7″ X 5″ The artwork features a view of Santa Rita typically holding a skull in one hand and a crucifix in the other. She has a small halo above her head and very nicely done wispy clouds behind her. The condition is excellent with very very minor wear and tiny losses to the surface with one small nail hole at the top center. There are no dents, creases or bends.
