This is a Russian enamel on repoussé metal panel, mounted on a wooden back with brass trim. The scene depicts the Annunciation (Virgin Mary and Archangel Gabriel), richly detailed in colorful enamel. The original Russian label on the back reads (translated). On the repoussé panel are depicted: the Holy Virgin Mary and an angel. The miniature is attributed to the brush of the artist Taddeo di Bartolo, executed in the second half of the 14th century. This plaque is a Russian collectible reproduction inspired by a 14th-century Italian miniature, not an original medieval work. Height: 10.5′. Width: 7.5 inches. Very good vintage condition with light wear from age. Wood backing has some minor scratches/marks. Enamel front is vibrant and detailed. This is a collectible Russian religious art piece, suitable for display or as part of a Russian icon and enamelware collection.
