Beautiful lifesize rare dress costume for a saint, Santos, madonna, Virgen, articulated or cage doll. The Dress is made of gold thread and has a beautiful large holy embroidery on the front, beautiful gold thread finished along the edges, and gold thread fringes. On one side there is an opening to put an arm through, and a separate gold threaded cuff to drape over the arm that, for example, was holding a holy item or Baby Jesus. Inside cotton lining in the early 1800s What is very interesting is that the mannequin who wore this particular dress must have worn it for a long time, because if you look closely you can see the discoloration around the neck on the chest where a necklace with a cross once hung… You will rarely come across this dress in this life-size. For sale: a very rare late 1800’s wax martyrs head once part of a life size sculpture probably kept in a glass showcase in a French Church or chapel/ monastery. These kind of figures or heads are very hard to find these days. The head is still in good condition. The removable Back “skull” is made out of a hard material, often seen on these holy santos heads or figures. Authentic Mexican Retablo (oil on tin painting) featuring the Virgen de los Remedios. Alternate names are Nuestra Senora de los Remedios and Our Lady of Los Remedios. This is the Virgin that the Mexican central government used as its patron instead of the Virgen de Guadalupe, who is more widely-recognized today. At the time, however, the central forces were devoted to the Virgen de los Remedios while the revolutionary forces to the Virgen de Guadalupe. So Virgen de los Remedios is associated with not only central geographical Mexico but also central political Mexico. The piece itself is finely painted with the utmost detail. It features vibrant turquoise, gold, and dark orange colors. Has been professionally mounted and framed on acid-free board with a beautiful linen backing (see pictures of back). Has also been professionally stored and authenticated. Approximately 8×11 alone and 11″ x 13″ framed. History: Retablos are a type of folk art that features traditional religious beliefs from the Mexican culture. Devotional retablos of holy images were painted on sheets of tin and displayed in family altars. Bridget’s Cabinet found this beautiful antique baby Jesus wax either for the collectors or for everybody who wants something special for the coming. This baby Jesus is made out of wax. So the hands , head and the legs are made of wax, the torso is made of fabric and stuffing. Face has glass eyes. Some tiny fingers are missing. But the doll is overall in very good condition.
