Very rare pair of antique hand-carved wooden Santos figures, each measuring approximately 16 inches tall. Both figures wear crowns and long robes, decorated in traces of gilt and polychrome paint in gold, red, and black. One figure holds a shield decorated with a large cross. The other stands with his hands clasped in prayer, a gesture of devotion and humility. The expressive faces, elongated forms, and richly worn finish suggest they were carved in the late 19th to early 20th century c. These would have originally been displayed on a home altar or chapel, and today they make a striking addition for collectors of religious art, Spanish Colonial antiques, or rustic folk décor. Original paint and gilt with age-related wear, patina, and losses. Handsome surface showing natural crackling and color fading, consistent with 100+ years of age. Both figures stand solidly. This antique polychrome religious statue depicts the Blessed Virgin holding Jesus. Handmade from wood, this statue is beautifully crafted. Unfortunately the polychrome is beginning to delaminate from the wood due to its age. Please see all of the pictures for details. The intricate work and vibrant colors make it a unique and collectible piece for those interested in religious artifacts. With the exception of the hand, it appears to be carved from one block of wood, possibly teak due its significant weight of 15.2 lbs. It measures 24 inches tall and the base is 6.5 inches deep and 7.5 inches wide. Mary is standing on a crescent moon perhaps depicting her ascension into heaven. The plaits of her hair is very unique and different. The baby Jesus holds the world in his hand while blessing the viewer. Please inquire with any questions.

Beautiful piece of sculpture with wonderful wear and surface. If this is not a genuine early piece, it is well worth the effort someone put into making it look old. Great craquelure and patina and a nice size to work in any space. Please use photos and zoom feature for most accurate condition. Measures about 9″ by 4.75″ and 4.25 deep. Up for sale here is an antique, very old, carved wood statue of Saint Francis. Traces of polychrome and gilt. Color is mostly dark brown/gold. Expected age related wear. Both hands are missing and are not included. Many losses to the paint and gilt. Some cracks and worm holes as pictured – please look the provided pictures carefully. No damage to the structural integrity of this figure – stands perfectly fine and would make an excellent decoration. Very heavy and clearly made of solid wood. This was found at an estate sale in Dallas, Texas. Homeowner had an eclectic collection of museum-quality antiques and artwork. The estate sale company was unable to provide me with any more info about this and the 3 other finds from this sale listed on my page. Size is about 22 inches tall, 8 inches wide & 5.5 inches deep.
