This is a beautiful and rare copy of the collection of essays on the Bible stories, religion, and morality, collected and edited by the great Christian Minister and writer, Reverend Edward E. Hale: The Rosary of Illustrations of The Bible, published in 1848. The copy we offer here is unique in that it has a red cover (more typically the cover is a darker tone of green or blue). As noted, the book has wear from age and use, stray marks to the covers and internal pages, a tear to the cover stock at the top of the spine, fading of paper, and a notable amount of foxing around the illustrations. That said, considering age, the book looks great – fabulous gilded cover illustrations of The Lord Jesus Christ, quite a bit of original gilding on the page edges, and good strong binding. A true rare book jewel.

There are 107 pieces in the lot. There are 52 loose crosses and medals. There are 51 rosaries (10 broken). There are 12 necklaces with various types of crosses. There are 2 bracelets. There is a range of materials including glass, crystal, wood, plastic, MOP, bakelite (possibly). Some of the medals are marked gold filled. There are possibly some silver pieces mixed in also. I have not tested anything. I have left them in the condition I got them in. They have not been cleaned.

For sale is an antique holy rosary with a Catacomb relic crucifix cross and 6 medals attached. When stretched out, this rosary measures approx. 18 5/8″ long and the crucifix is 1 7/8″ high. The crucifix has a Catacomb soil relic inside. The paper label with “terra catacumbarum” is. Somewhat folded inside the crucifix. The back of this crucifix has “Roma” on it for Rome, Italy. The centerpiece has Mary on one side & Jesus on the reverse. The 6 medals are: a Mary Miraculous medal, a heart medal, a Saint Roche and Mary medal. A Saint Anthony and Saint Francis of Assisi medal, a Mary Virgin of Pomei medal, and a rare. Souvenir of Jerusalem & Jesus Resurrection medal. The 6 medals are smaller and measure. Between 3/8″ and 9/16″ wide. The screw to the crucifix works well. When you open up the crucifix and take out the tiny screw. Best to do it over a table. If the screw gets lost, they are very difficult to replace. This item is antique and has age and wear including discoloration and imperfections in the. Also, the front of the brown crucifix is missing some of the brown material. See photos for details. Thank you for looking!
