Semi Antique Persian Judaica Painting on bone framed in Khatam Marquetry. Featuring a beautiful Semi Antique painting done on faux bone. The painting depicts two scenes from the bible. To the right is the Biblical scene of Abraham as he comes to give his son Isaac up as an offering to god at which point he is stopped by an angel, which gives him a lamb instead as an offering. The left scene depicts the judgment of king Solomon. The story goes that two mothers both claimed to be the mother of the same child, King Solomon tricks the two mothers into revealing their true identities and feelings by giving the judgment of splitting the child in half. One of the women is ok with the judgement while the second and true mother willingly gives up the baby so that he can survive. From their intentions King Solomon deduces that the true mother is the second. At the top of both scenes are Hebrew inscriptions explaining each scene. The painting has been placed in a beautiful Khatam frame. Is a Persian version of marquetry, art forms made by decorating the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, bone and metal precisely-cut geometrical shapes. 28.5 cm x 62.5 cm. 11 in x 24.75 in.
