Beautiful antique oil painting, after a work by the 15th century Italian artist, Andrea Mantegna, depicting the Virgin Mary at the foot of the Cross, being comforted by St. John and Mary Magdalene, the painting measures 11-1/2″ x 11″ (sight), mounted in ornate gold & black frame, overall measurements: 15-7/8″ x 15-1/4″, not certain if this painting is modified (cut down), perhaps part of a larger work, the painting has age, at least from the 19th century, perhaps a student work or perhaps a painting done on commission to bring home from a European tour, good condition, from a local estate.
