900 silver wax seal desk stamp, circa late 19th century. A superb solid casted silver sculptural figure of exceptional quality and finely detailed throughout. Depicting a fully dimensional figure of the Virgin Mary shrouded in robes. She is portrayed in a standing pose, her hands clasped to her chest, shrouded in a cascade of folding cloth. On a circular pedestal base with gilt vermeil finish. Bearing an intricate monogram, likely that of a priest. Bearing initials JD with the symbols of the Eucharist, depicting the Body of Christ, a chalice, shafts of wheat and grapes. Wax seal measures 3 1/8″ height x 1 1/4″ diameter matrix. Housed in the original presentation box, likely this item was a gift to a priest or clergy. The box features a dark red velvet lined exterior, decorated with finely crafted metal appliques including the sacred heart. The lid bearing a circular medallion hand engraved and dated 1876 1901. The medallion is the same diameter as the matrix on the wax seal, ideally to display the figure when outside the box. The hinged lid opens to reveal a ruched satin lined fitted interior in a charming shade of blue. The box measures 4 3/4″ length x 3 3/8″ width x 3 height. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Some wear to the box, having housed the wax seal protectively.
