Antique Teak Buddha Statue, Khmer (Cambodia) seated. Origin: Temple Precinct, Northern District, Cambodia. Dimensions: Height 32cm / 12.5. Observation: Excellent Condition, minor abrasions and flaws typical of the period. Please examine the detailed photos for quality. Teak Buddha Statue (seated) measuring 32 x 24 x 14cm. It is a classic Khmer style Buddha statue. Also known as gesture of Earth-Touching in Sanskrit; Chudi Yin in Chinese, Sokuchi-in in Japanese and Ch’oji-in in Korean. This is the most common pose you will find in Khmer temples:- the legs are crossed, the left hand in the lap, and the right hand pointing to the ground with the palm facing inward toward the Buddha. This posture is known as Calling The Earth to Witness, and it is the definition of the moment of enlightenment for the Buddha. The yellow, orange and black hues add to the antique feel of the wood. This pose is closely associated with the story of Buddha Shakyamuni, it is generally seen in Khmer paintings and sculptures of this particular Buddha. For centuries Khmer artists have followed strict rules for the depiction of Buddhas, with different regions incorporating their own particular style into their imagery. The faces of figures were essential in conveying the state of grace, the eyes the most important detail. This beautiful Buddharupa would be most ideal for a temple, home altar or meditation room. We are sure he will bring to your home a unique atmosphere, representing the skilled work of Cambodian woodcarvers and sculptors, whose traditions and craft have been honed and passed down through many generations, reaching hundreds of years back to the majesty of the Angkor period. We hope our sculptures find the perfect home with you! The item “Khmer Antique Style Teak Buddha 19th Century Cambodian XXcm/XX” is in sale since Sunday, February 24, 2019.
