And MELS ANTIQUE JEWELRY TOO. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE RELIGIOUS PENDANT that was made in the ART NOUVEAU style around c1910. It is SIGNED SELLIER (Henri Sellier, 1883 – 1943) and stamped 18K. The pendant is FINELY DETAILED with COBALT BLUE & GREEN PLIQUE-A-JOUR TRANSLUCENT ENAMEL. Plique-à-jour (French for “letting in daylight”) is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells and has no backing so light can shine through the translucent enamel. It is like a miniature version of stained glass that is very technically challenging and time consuming with a high failure rate. The pendant displays a relief of the PRAYING VIRGIN MARY / MADONNA / BLESSED MARY / MOTHER OF GOD / MARIA. The pendant is framed with 29 NATURAL PEARLS that measure 2.8 mm. This OVAL pendant measures 1-3/16 long, not including the bale, by 15/16 at the widest point. The total weight is 6.3 grams. The back has NOT YET been engraved. NOW THE NEGATIVE NOTES. The bale is not original to the pendant (but suits it fine) and it has a small solder mark at the bottom. I do not think the pearls are original either. There are solder marks where the pearls are attached to the frame and with magnification you can see the glue that was used. There are a couple of chips in the enamel, but nobody would see this when you are wearing the pendant. These issues are reflected in the price and it would double to triple in price for the same pendant of this larger size without any issues.
