Here is a superbly detailed antique Victorian bronze gothic casket depicting medieval style scenes on all sides and the lid. The scenes seem to depict the life of Christ, those on the lid seem to show the nativity. Each of the sides have a different scene and there is are what appear to be various pilgrims, and a knight riding backwards on his horse in another panel. The interior of the casket is lined at the base with a figured deep red velvet. It is very heavy for its size and seems to be of bronze, judging from the colour and patination of the metal. There are various versions of these caskets, and this is a very good one. The casting is quite crisp and it has the right amount of patina. The casket bears the makers mark for Adolf Frankau and Co. A well known and respected maker of metalware objects of the Victorian period. There is no tab to the lid now, although the lock remains (without its key). The hinges are sound and strong. The box measures 6 inches (15 cm) long, 3 inches (7.5 cm) high and 3.67inches (9.2 cm) wide.
