FrenchAntiqueManoir is a charming antique french brocante and antiques from 18th century until the Art Déco period which come essentially from the Loire Valley, known for its history, wine, family property, manoir and castles. There are crowns of Queens which are on many nostalgic sites of the Royal orders, but there are also crowns which we could locate in the “Kingdom of Heaven”. They are all very beautiful, but the one which appears above seems to me exceptional by the quality of the inspiration, associated with the quality of the work, and with an important symbolism. Absolutely wonderful by its craftsmanship work and its superb condition, this antique French religious brass crown is a beautiful confection that is from the mid 1800. The lower band is a row of clear faceted glass on chiseled base. Just above, a band showing an arabesque decor inlaid with clear faceted glass jewels and a larger pink faceted glass jewels. Each of the six bands is embellished with a different sizing faceted glass jewels, the clear are small, the vivid green are medium and the pink ones are the largest. The bands are separated in the bottom by a three vivid green grouping jewels stylizing fleur de lys and at the top by a gorgeous arabesque decor decorated by clear faceted glass jewels. At the top stands a cross stuck on an orb (circular surface) that is fully adorned by clear faceted glass jewels that surround a pink glass jewel at the center. The back of the cross is also decorated on the ends with four green jewels. The crown is an emblem of royalty and victory. Jesus wore only a crown of thorns. It was in the 17th century that Count Alexander Sforza, to show his piety towards the Mother of infant Jesus, sent at his expense gold crowns to the most famous Virgins of his time. Since 1631, the date of this initiative, the gesture of piety of the Count Alexander Sforza became the custom. All the faceted glass jewels catch and reflect the light beautifully, The crown has aged wonderfully and would be perfect on top of Virgin Mary’s head or Jesus’s head but can be also superb for a doll. Four small clear glass jewels are missing but it is absolutely not noticeable and not an issue as this crown is full of jewels. Measurements : 10cm/ 3.94″ height and maximum large is 9cm/ 3.54″.
