Rare antique European silver filigree crucifix, origin attributed to Italy or Spain (though no maker’s marks found). Corpus of Christ is finely detailed and gilded; the INRI banner above Christ is also of gilt silver. Dates to mid-19th/early 20th century. Believed to be’European Sterling’, with a purity of. Dimensions: approximately 3.5″ long & 2.5″ wide. Condition: Excellent general condition for its age – no dents, no missing filigree. Provenance: The Collection of Linn Howard Selby. Notes/Literature: Linn Howard Selby, author and art collector, contributed to the collection begun in 1925 by her mother, Loretta Hines Howard. She also continued the tradition of curating the magnificent annual presentation of the Angel Tree and Nativity Scene at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
