MEASUREMENT: 16-1/2″ long x 7-1/2″ wide x 1-1/4 deep / Weight – 7 lbs. Done out of cast iron open work, this fabulous antique 19th century decorative French cast iron cross fragment features a winged angel praying angel. Behind her is a cattail stock. An angel is a spiritual being who is God’s servant, and considered a benevolent celestial intermediary between god(or Heaven) and humanity. Other roles include protectors and guides for humans. Cattails (bulrush) are associated with the number one. In numerology, the number one is all about the beginning. According to Victorian tradition, in the “language of flowers, ” cattails are a symbol of peace and prosperity, strong earth energy, balance and stability. Plots in France were originally leased for 99 years. Fragments such as this are becoming more difficult to find. Each is to be treasured for its amazing beauty and workmanship! This piece can be placed in a garden room or garden, hung on the wall, or used as part of a vignette. Perfect for a French Country, French Rustic, Farmhouse, Jeanne D’Arc, Cottage Style, or Shabby Chic home. CONDITION: This piece is 100+ years old and has a gorgeous weathered rust patina. I have used a special solution to clean this piece and seal the aged patina, so it will not come off on the hands. If it is placed outside, it will continue to rust naturally.
