This is a stirring and thought-provoking Antique Vintage Mid Century Modern Surrealist Abstract Angel Mystery Painting, airbrush paint (acrylic or oil) on canvas. This work is very unique and unusual, it is created with an airbrush paint machine and stencils for the larger shapes, with hand applied oil or acrylic paint for the finer details. The brush strokes are barely visible, but they are present. In all of mt years of dealing in Mid Century artworks, I have acquired two pieces three pieces produced by this technique. It was very uncommon for the era and cutting edge in many ways. This work depicts a mysterious silhouette of the archangel Gabriel, with a stern facial expression and holding a large sword in his right hand. Gabriel’s head is surrounded by a corona of holy fire, and his body is patinated with the image of a mysterious floral pattern, possibly a reference to the garden of Eden. This work was acquired from an abandoned old multi-million-dollar estate in Westwood, Los Angeles, California. This work is unsigned, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? This painting approximately dates to the late 1950’s – 1960’s. Approximately: 25 3/4 x 35 1/8 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 19 1/4 x 28 1/2 inches. Good condition, with some very light scuffing and edge wear to the original period frame. Canvas has some light scuffs in the lower left corner please see photos.
