This is one of many great vintage & antique items I’m currently listing from various estates. Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure. Museum Quality 18th Century European Religious Santos / Mannequin. This religious figurine / mannequin has been in our family since the 1960s and was passed down from our grandmother. It dates to the 18th century and is in a beautiful state of preservation. She retains her original polychrome paint (the body wasn’t painted where she would have been clothed). Her glass eyes have brown irises. The articulated arms are jointed at shoulders and elbows and are easily posable. The head swivels slightly. The fully carved legs are stationary. Gilt sandals are part of the carved feet. She has nail holes in her head, as shown, from centuries of attaching wigs or headdress. Based on its large size, the Santos was likely commissioned for a church. My grandmother used to recount that the doll originally had old German handwritten documents sewn into her garments. These garments and documents have since been lost so its exact country / provenance is unknown. The undergarments shown are of muslin: the skirt has a drawstring sewn in at the waist. The fitted top has snap closures. She comes with an antique hand-sewn wig. She also comes with a cap and an antique velvet & lace garment (not shown here). The only damages to note are a chip on the back base of her neck (seen in 4th photo) and a split along joined sections of wood in her waist (seen in 7th photo) which does not affect her stability. There are also some chips along the back edges of her sandals. The stand, though not antique or original to the piece, is included. Only 12 photos are shown.
