This is a striking and thought provoking Vintage Modern Abstract Constructivism Oil Painting on canvas, depicting what I believe is a church or cathedral. The image is highly stylized, and clearly influenced by the geometric bold artworks of the early Constructivism art movement. This work is by Dixon, California painter and educator Char Sylvestri, and approximately dates to the 1970’s – 1980’s. Signed: “Char” in the lower right corner. Additionally, this work is signed on the verso: Char Sylvestri… Approximately 25 1/2 x 31 5/8 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 30 inches. Good condition, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the original period frame. Sylvestri’s works are quite rare, and seldom appear on the market. She was highly influential in promoting the arts among women, and inspired several important leading female artists in Southern California. Gallery 625:’Five Women Artists: 20 Years of Art Together. “Five Women Artists: 20 Years of Art Together” is a five-person group exhibition opening Friday at Gallery 625 in downtown Woodland. The show will feature the artistry of painting, printmaking, sculpting and mixed media. The five-women in this show have been creating and showing their art in Sacramento each month since 1996, and were early participants in that city’s Second Saturday Art Walk. They got together in an art class led by the late Char Sylvestri of Dixon, and her encouragement brought the five together to form Art Studios in midtown Sacramento in late 1996. The theme coincides with March being Women’s History Month. The Yolo County Women’s History Month Committee is holding its 29th annual Women’s History Month luncheon on Thursday, March 10, at the Woodland Community & Senior Center. The theme for the 2016 luncheon, “Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government, ” honors women who have shaped America’s history and its future through their public service and government leadership. Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, the 28th Chief Justice of the State of California, is the guest speaker for the luncheon. Meanwhile, the five artists being featured on Friday include Jane Burnside, Barbara De Wein, Sondra Olson, Judy Smith, and Diana Flak Walters. According to information provided by the artists, the quintet of women are painters, printmakers, sculptors, poets and mixed media artists who have shown their work locally, statewide, and internationally through shows, competitions, and other venues. Familiarity, trust, intimacy and honesty with each other over the years continues to be a rewarding experience, as they continue to be bound together by those first years monotype printmaking in Sylvestri’s Dixon art studio. “YoloArts is very excited to feature the art of these five multi-talented women – each with her own unique style, but all sharing the same passion and dedication to the artistry, ” said Janice Purnell, curator of Gallery 625. The exhibit’s opening reception will be hosted by YoloArts board member Joseph Bellacera, from 5:30 to 8:30 p. On Friday, coinciding with downtown Woodland’s First Friday Art Walk. Live piano music will be provided by Julie Dachtler. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. The seller is “willsusa_utzeqm” and is located in this country: US.
