Stunning Antique Porcelain Madonna & Child Religious Plaque in Original Velvet Case – c. 1880s This is an exquisite 19th-century devotional porcelain plaque featuring the Madonna and Child, beautifully presented in its original lined case, along with original glass. A truly remarkable piece of religious art, likely French or German in origin (possibly Limoges-style), dating from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The central image is mounted under glass and set within a gold-toned bezel, and appears to be either hand-painted or a finely detailed transfer on porcelain or enameled ceramic. The medallion emits a delicate, hollow ring when tapped – consistent with high-quality porcelain construction. The item has not been tested for gold content but I believe it’s either gold plated or gilded bronze. The case itself is covered in embossed leather or gutta-percha with an intricate floral motif, lined with gold silk fabric and beautiful aged leather. Indicative of fine craftsmanship from the era.
