Davidson was well known for his religious psalm art. Colored ink on embossed paper. Paper has a lattice filigree design , while the middle. Section is flat and filled in with all the micro-graphy. The words of Psalm 16 hand drawn into the name Henry D. Scrolls on top and bottom. You need a magnifing glass to read the psalm. That is what is so incredible about this! The top bar states ” This specimen of Caligraphy Consists of Psalm 16″ and. Contines at the bottom Respectfully Dedicated To Henry D. Mears, Esq The Mears were a Quaker family that came from England in the 1700’s. Mears father faught in the Revolutionary War, which was against Quaker beliefs. Henry grew up to be a lawyer, born 1830 and died 1870. Signed near the bottom in red ink, Executed and Written by David Davidson. Artist, November 16 th, 1858. Original gold gilt wood frame, hand sawn wood back. We also have the bookBiographical Notice of Henry Haller Mears, Sr. Genealogy of the Mears Family, By Prof. Printed in Philadelphia, 1873. We will also include the booklet with the Micro-graphy. Measures 8″ W x 6″ H x. Condition: The paper is in good condition for it being from before the Civil War era. Looks like there is dirt under the glass so the paper appears darker on the edges. We did not want to take it apart to clean it.
