Antique Oil on Copper Icon Painting, 18th-19th C. Description: Antique Oil on Copper Icon Painting of Virgin Mary, 18th-19th C. Continental or Spanish Colonial. Likely a Retablo (devotional painting), the panel of rectangular shape, the surface painted with portrait of the Virgin Mary wearing a blue cloak, her head downcast and face with serene expression. Unsigned, the panel fitted in a custom gold velvet lined frame with rope border. Dimensions: Frame: 10.25″ high x 8″ wide x 1.5 deep (26cm x 20.3cm x 3.8cm). Panel: 8″ high x 5.75″ wide (20.3cm x 14.6cm). Weight: 1.03 lbs. Overall, the painting is in fair/good condition with appropriate signs of age. Nicely worn and with a rich patina from age, the copper plate with shallow bends/dents to the metal; the surface with areas of chipping/wear to the paint. Lightly faded, the velvet wrapped frame with small tears/frays along the corners and edges. All major flaws are noted in the condition report above; however, as each of our items is unique and with a history of its own, there may be minor flaws and signs of age from years of handing which are not mentioned.
