Measures 11 inches x 9 inches (28x23cm) Probably carved in Belgium or southern Netherlands due to the style but coming from an Irish Convent. This is a masterly carved Meerschaum plaque which has had a later chalk frame and a globed glass front added later. From the 1st half to mid 1800s the detail in the carving is supreme with a lot going on. I have tried to trace the original grand master painting (if any) this this could be based on but cannot even find one half so busy in it’s depiction of the Crucifixion.
