Here is an item which I dont know where it originates or how old it is or what its used for.. I do not often get items which I dont know what they are.. So APOLOGIES if I have anything wrong. It is a small carved – engraved silver travelling ink pot – inkwell – scent – perfume bottle with metal chain tassles around it and a top finial for hanging from a belt or necklace. It is very delicate and really quite well made.. Quite a bit of time and energy has gone into creating this.. As it is like a BOX within a BOX. Very decorative, you can see the fine carved detail on the outer pod. Open this outer pod to see an area where something can be kept? This centre pot is seperate from the top and bottom sections. Believed to be an inkwell – perfume holder…. Unless you know better. It could well be an amulet too or for keeping some sort of liquid sacred.. You wouldnt get much in it.. But as I say there is a small space at the very bottom too when you open it.. Below the central pod. It has an Ottoman shape to it… I really like the item even though I do not know its country or origin – age – use. The outer pod has a little tail, so maybe this is more from a country like the Ottoman Empire – Russian – Indo Persia – Turkey or similar? The outer pod measures approx 34mm in height. The whole item measures approx 95mm in total including the jangles / tassles. It weighs 26.7grams. It certainly does jangle when moved about. In good condition overall with minimal age and use wear, just a little tarnishing and rubbing in places. It looks like NIELLO silver.. But its only black from tarnishing. There are no silver marks that I can see. I cannot find anything similar on google to compare it with… The little hook clasp holds it all together… Then the hinge is a triple hinge…. On such a small item it is really quite beautiful. This one is far better quality made.. The attention to detail on this one is far better. Please see close up pictures for more detail.
