It is highly valued for the exceptional beauty of the parchment and the striking, elegant calligraphy. The parchment has retained its ink remarkably well, leaving the letters crisp, dark, and easy to read. The Subject: David’s Song (Shirat David). These fragments contain the complete and continuous text of “David’s Song” (Shirat David). This beautiful, poetic psalm is a magnificent hymn of gratitude and praise to God for delivering King David from the hands of all his enemies. Notably, this exact song appears twice in the Hebrew Bible: once in the Book of 2 Samuel (Chapter 22), and again in the Book of Psalms (Psalm 18). It is written in a special traditional poetic layout, known as “brick upon brick, ” visually representing the structural beauty of the song. The Rarity of Vowels and Cantillation Marks. Scrolls of this nature are exceptionally rare. Standard Torah or Nevi’im (Prophets) scrolls used for public reading in synagogues are strictly written with consonants only-they never contain vowels (niqqud) or musical cantillation marks (te’amim). The fact that this scroll was meticulously handwritten with both vowels and cantillation marks indicates it was likely commissioned for a highly specialized purpose, such as advanced personal study, exact pronunciation reference (Tikkun Korim), or a unique community tradition. Finding antique parchment scrolls with these features is highly unusual and highly sought after by collectors. This offering consists of 3 separate parchment pieces, which I presume were originally part of a single, continuous scroll. Measurements (from largest to smallest). 34.5 x 17 cm approx. 13.6 x 6.7 inches. 24.5 x 16 cm approx. 9.6 x 6.3 inches. 22.5 x 6 cm approx. 8.9 x 2.4 inches. Considering its significant age of 150-200 years, the manuscript shows expected signs of wear and time. There are some tears, cuts, and remnants of glue/tape on the parchment.
