Description of item for sale. This life size hand carved oak statue of the kneeling Pope St. Pius X is from France and it dates to the early 1900’s (Pius X’s tenure began in 1903). This statue is outstanding for the beautifully detailed painted finish. Overall this statue is in very good antique condition with only minor scratches and discolorations as would be expected. It is made from solid oak. The original paint is nicely patinated and shows lovely muted colors. Note the missing fingers (see photos) as well as minor cracks that occur from normal shrinkage of the wood with age. Other than that, there is no notable damage and no woodworm or dry rot.
