Antique mid-1800s religious banner depicting Saint Remy, from the diocese of Namur, France. DOES NOT INCLUDE POLE…. This banner is in blue silk with elaborate embroidery depicting Saint Remi on the front and the name id the diocese and a crest on the back. It is accented in gold metal fringe which is in very good condition for its age. I have posted a picture of a few pieces of Fringe that have been compromised, but its still very good. As well there is some fraying of the silk on the back under the crest. Other than that, in GREAT CONDITION! These just did not hold up since they were likely carried thru the streets for festivals. Looks like this one may have just lived its life indoors in a church! The front of the banner says SAINT REMY PRIEZ POUR NOUS , which is French. The English translation is SAINT REMY PRAY FOR US. The back of the banner is embroidered PARIOSSE DORTHO DIOCESE DE NAMUR in French, Which depicts either the diocese in Namur, France or Namur, Belgium near Brussels. Parts of Belgium speak both French and Flemish, so not sure which country this is from, but its definitely French in origin. The tapestry is very large and is 28.5 inches wide by 55 inches long with fringe. The pole is 123 long, so 10+ feet. So, if you can do a LOCAL PICK-UP, its yours. If you just want the top with the cross, its yours. And this is 10 1/4 feet (over the max). So, its pretty cost prohibitive for just a wooden pole.
