This massive, heavy volume features incredibly ornate, deeply embossed dark brown leather boards with striking gilt decorative lettering on both the front and back covers. This comprehensive theological volume features the iconic Christian allegory “The Pilgrim’s Progress” alongside Bunyan’s other famous texts, heavily complemented by a suite of original full-page steel engravings by master artist A. Binding / Material: Complete hardback publishers’ case binding in full genuine sheepskin leather. The heavy structural binding remains intact and sturdy. Regular age-related shelf wear, rubbing to the leather corners, and minor scuffing typical for a 150+ year old family heirloom. Pages: Text block is stable. Occasional historic foxing or aging spots present on the paper but completely legible and clean overall. Unique Historical Provenance: Includes an authentic, original 19th-century previous owner signature S. Wakefield neatly written in fountain dip ink on the inside rear cover board. Interestingly, it was inscribed upside down, likely while the volume was resting face-down on a parlor writing desk, adding excellent unique historic character to this specific copy.
