A beautiful 19th-century French devotional panel, hand painted on wood and crafted in the unusual form of a heraldic shield. At the center is an ornate Eucharistic chalice surmounted by a crucifix, surrounded by blooming roses in soft blush, cream, and pink against a rich burgundy ground. The shaped wooden panel, aged painted surface, and warm patina give it a wonderfully timeworn character. A distinctive piece of French Catholic devotional art that would be especially lovely incorporated into an antique gallery wall, religious art collection, or French-inspired interior. Details. France, 19th century. Hand painted on wood. Approx. 15 3/4″ H × 12 1/2″ W. Heraldic shield form. Eucharistic chalice, crucifix & floral imagery.
